Ucrania recuerda Chernóbil

CHERNÓBIL, Ucrania (Reuters) – Ucrania conmemoraba el martes el 25 aniversario del peor accidente nuclear del mundo en su planta de Chernóbil mientras Japón continuaba con sus esfuerzos por controlar la crisis en su planta de Fukushima.

“Este es un día de luto para nosotros. Estamos de luto por las personas que hace 25 años lucharon para protegernos”, dijo Gennady Pikul, de 50 años, en referencia a los bomberos y otros “liquidadores” que arriesgaron sus vidas para controlar el reactor en llamas.

El 26 de abril de 1986, el reactor número cuatro de la planta de Chernóbil, que entonces estaba dentro de la Unión Soviética, explotó y ardió tras un experimento de seguridad que salió muy mal.

La explosión envió ondas de radiación por toda Europa.

Un total de 31 personas murieron inmediatamente pero muchos más fallecieron por enfermedades relacionadas con la radiación, como el cáncer, muchos de ellos en lo que hoy es Bielorrusia.

Decenas de miles de personas fueron evacuadas, para no regresar nunca, de Prypyat, la ciudad más próxima a la planta que entonces contaba con 50.000 habitantes.

La semana pasada la comunidad mundial, espoleada por la crisis nuclear en la planta japonesa de Fukushima, comprometió 550 millones de euros para la construcción de un nuevo cofre sobre el reactor averiado para sustituir al provisional que ha comenzado a filtrar radiación.

“Chernóbil fue un reto de dimensiones planetarias. La respuesta a este reto sólo la puede suministrar la comunidad mundial”, dijo el presidente ucraniano Viktor Yanukovich el martes.

    Eso es porque

    En Rusia existe mucha influencia militar en todos los sectores de la sociedad. A los jovenes les enseñan esto en las escuela porque a los 18 años pueden prestar servicio al ejercito.
